Moon Tide Ladies Take on a 60-Day Transformation Challenge

We like to think of ourselves as an active bunch at Moon Tide—we have surfers, long-distance runners, heli-skiers, yogis, white water rafters, and everything in between. If you name it, I’m certain at least one of us has tried it. But, when four of our coworkers decided to take on Afterburn Fitness’ 60-day transformation challenge we were all impressed. More than 1,200 people participated in the rigorous program but in the end, only one team was crowned the winner based on best results in these three categories: fat loss, muscle gain and body mass index. Although not the overall winners, Team Moon Tide put in a solid effort—and really it was more about life transformation than winning, anyway! Collectively, they lost 58.1 pounds and 24% body fat.

What was the hardest part of the challenge?
For me, the hardest part of the challenge was just getting started. I was excited at the prospect of kickstarting a new, healthier lifestyle, but I hadn’t been in a gym for several years. Getting up at 5:15 in the morning was difficult, but once I got into the routine, it definitely became easier. Oh, 1,000 calories a day and NO ALCOHOL was no easy feat.

The best?
The best part was creating a new lifestyle that I hope I can stick to for a long time to come. During the 60-Day Challenge I didn’t miss a single day (and sometimes even did two-a-days) and that helped me to create a new habit of working out on a regular basis. Now I’m making an effort to get to the gym 4 or 5 days a week, which is much more realistic.

The most rewarding?
Honestly, my results were very rewarding—I lost 27 lbs, 7% of my body fat and a bunch of inches all over. But just realizing I like working out in a team-based environment was a reward in itself. Now I’m not intimidated to try workouts I never thought I’d be able to do. I also slept better, gained confidence and had a great time with my friends from work.

Fave class or exercise?
My favorite classes are spinning and high-intensity interval training.

Body Fat lost: 7%

What was the hardest part of the challenge?
The hardest part of the challenge was being intimidated by the weights! I was so far out of my comfort zone because I’ve never really worked out, other than a yoga class here or there, so swinging kettlebells and learning the correct way to do deadlifts with a legit weightlifter’s bar was super intimidating.

The best?
The new friendships! I would never have crossed paths with people that are now incredible, new friends. I event met my new roommate at Afterburn. Thank goodness for Cross Train class!

The most rewarding?
The challenge really gave me a new level of gratefulness for my health. I pushed myself to the max for 60 days and it carried me through. At the end of it, I wasn’t looking in the mirror and wishing I were skinnier, I was looking in the mirror grateful for having the health to do something like that.

Fave class or exercise?
I’m obsessed with boxing. Who knew waking up at 5:20 to punch the heck out of a bag would continually be the best part of my week?

Lbs lost: 4.6
Body Fat lost: 4.3%

What was the hardest part of the challenge?
The hardest part for me was the diet. My goal was to figure out a balance of eating habits and workout routine that I can maintain for a loooooooong time.

The best?
I’m so thrilled to be feeling strong and confident again. Not only because I feel like I look better, but I REALLY FEEL better.

The most rewarding?
I’ve been doing some kind of sport, or working out to be better at sport my whole life. I had stopped exercising almost entirely and it affected me mentally, physically and my overall happiness. This challenge was the jump start I needed. I feel like myself again and am happy to have found a gym that has a great mix of classes and awesome people working at bettering themselves. As long as my body can hold up, I’m going to workout:)

Fave class or exercise?
Turns out I love boxing! It’s a great full body work out with cardio included. Side benefit: Extra stress relief being able to hit and kick that bag.

Lbs lost: 16.5
Body Fat lost: 7.2%

What was the hardest part of the challenge?
Learning and adjusting to the clean meal plan on a consistent basis.

The best?
Feeling stronger both mentally and physically.  I couldn’t have done it without the constant support of my badass teammates, Angela and Hannah. Love those two!

The most rewarding?
The feeling of accomplishment, pushing myself and my body to the max. I realized I’m stronger than I thought I was!

Fave class or exercise?
Interval X and Burn — Mike Farrell’s classes!

Lbs lost: 10
